Kimmann deal inked in Verona at the weekend.
You read it right! Niek Kimmann, the Gate 8 Maestro, 2015 UCI World Champion and reigning 2018 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Champion has signed with Gate 8 Racing for the 2019 season.
Team owner Kyle Williams said of the signing;
“We considered Kyle Evans and Anthony Dean for the team but they insisted on picking the inside gates for finals. That’s just bad marketing. We needed someone who’d stay on message. In that respect there really is only one option.”
Fifteen BMX reported rumours that a deal was agreed at the Manchester SX last month when Niek took a surprise Gate 8 win on the short track. Kyle replied to the rumours;
“It’s true, the deal was close but we still needed convincing.”
The timing of the announcement was delayed to coincide with opening the rounds of the European Cup in Verona where Niek told us he’d seal the deal with back to back wins from Gate 8. He didn’t disappoint!
Here’s what Niek had to say on the announcement;
“It’s great to be working with Gate 8 as they represent my values really well. Like me they’re all about starting from the outside and getting the Holeshot. To be honest though, they had me at free T-shirt”
Niek has a full factory T-shirt deal with Gate 8 Racing and will be rocking the Gate 8 Life T-Shirt between motos around the world.
