A London Thing

40% of the Gate 8 Racing team headed to Cyclopark in Kent for the opening round of the London BMX series.

If you’ve not been to a London race yet you should certainly check it out. The London series started in 2013 as part of the legacy programme from the 2012 Olympic Games and it's really delivered on its promise to introduce people from all over the capital to the sport. Whilst is has the largest novice continent anywhere in the UK it's not just for beginners and rounds at National venues like Cyclopark attract a strong expert field. With almost 200 riders in racing, a series sponsor and the Commentary/DJ duo from the HSBC National BMX Series the atmosphere and spectacle are first rate.

On track, the racing was fast and furious as the team used the event as a warm-up for next weekend’s National rounds. Miguel Gaboleiro, (who is fast becoming a crowd favourite) was in full attack mode sending every jump in sight. Riding two bikes he proved why he’s the fittest rider in his class. Following suit with two bikes was George Hunt on his URP. Haydon Green stepped back up to Superclass for the weekend taking advantage of rare windless day to race the ‘Pro Section’ the track isn’t nicknamed ‘Cyclonepark' for nothing! Zara Harris, (a former London Champion) was racing up two classes with the 15-16 girls.

The results were great with wins for Miguel, George and Zara and a podium for Haydon. Most importantly though, the team gained a lot of quality track time and got the bugs out of the system before the National roadshow rolls into town next Friday. We hope the wind stays away!
